Production experience of the cultivation of precocious cotton varieties after winter wheat harvest under sprinkler irrigation

Abstract:

The experience of cultivating of precocious cotton varieties using sprinkling technology as a second crop in Central Asia is discussed in the article. The methodology of work is based on field experience, field observations, collection, analysis and processing of data of the studied object under the conditions of Central Asia. Three cotton varieties were studied in the experiment mainly: mid-season An-Bayaut-2 and two precocious Tashkent-6 and Omad with one regime of soil moisture before irrigation. Irrigation rates were 1,400 cubic meter per ha (An-Bayaut-2) and 950 cubic meter per ha (Tashkent-6 and Omad). As a result, the possibility of obtaining a cotton crop sown after winter wheat harvest was revealed using the sprinkling technology. It is noted that about 250 thousand tons of cotton fiber are needed to fully satisfy the Russian needs today. Large areas (about 278,000 ha) are needed to obtain such a volumes. Volgograd and Astrakhan regions, the Republic of Kalmykia, the Stavropol Territory may be promising regions for it. Production areas in Russia are still small: in the Stavropol region, cotton is grown on an area of 250 hectares, another 100 hectares are in Astrakhan and Volgograd regions.
